A photo I took on Christmas Day 2009 in a Californian Redwood Forest
Almost eleven months after the road trip that took me to this virgin Redwood forest in northern California for Christmas of 2009, here I am today starting this new blog to write about the many special God given moments that filled my journey.
They started before this picture was taken: the moment I arrived in Portland, Oregon, while at the airport, in fact. Or maybe they started even before that ... in my London 'home' when I had decided in October 2009 to look for a vintage VW Westfalia campervan on the west coast and had searched EBay for such a vehicle. My plan had been to pick up a van there so I could drive across America coast to coast towards my 'home' state of Massachusetts.
It's more than three months since I completed that road trip which lasted longer than I had imagined. In this time I have been trying to adjust to being back on the east coast. Only in this last week have I begun to find the inner peace that I need to reflect upon my journey. There are a few things that have helped me to reach this still space:
- Finding a special church reading group in Grafton, MA, and with them starting "The Good and Beautiful Community" by James Bryan Smith
- Coming out to Cape Cod one week ago and being away from constant phone and internet access
- Reconnecting with old friends and the bible study group at my Cape Cod Church in Truro, MA
- Reading "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert
So, now that I am in this place of stillness, let me share with you a series of special moments during the six months I spent on the road. I will not know until I begin, what my reflections are going to be and the teachings they have for me.
My hope is that as I share with you what they mean to me, you will also make comments and share what they mean to you. After all, this is a blog and we can chat in this space on the world wide web of life, can't we?
